Terraced house description: example and free generator

Terraced houses attract first-time buyers and investors, and the weakest descriptions apologise for what the property is not. Write about the layout and period character by name, and be straight about parking - on-street and permit arrangements are exactly the kind of material information a buyer should not be discovering at viewing. Whether it is mid- or end-terrace, and what the outside space really is, also belong in the copy.

Example terraced house description

CHARACTERFUL TWO-BEDROOM VICTORIAN TERRACED HOUSE FOR SALE ON FOUNDRY STREET, EXETER Foundry Street is one of those terraces where houses tend to sell to people who already know the road, and it is easy to see why: this two-bedroom Victorian mid-terrace pairs original character with sensible modern updates. Inside there are stripped floorboards and a cast-iron fireplace in the sitting room, a separate dining room, and a galley kitchen leading out to a paved courtyard garden. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with an over-bath shower. Parking is on-street within a residents' permit zone. The house sits within walking distance of the quayside, independent shops and the city's mainline stations, making it a strong option for first-time buyers and commuters alike. Tips for writing terraced house listings

  • Never apologise for size - describe what the rooms are ("two double bedrooms") rather than what the house lacks.
  • Be straight about parking: say whether it is on-street, permit-zone or allocated. Buyers will find out anyway, and omissions erode trust in the rest of the listing.
  • Name the period features - sash windows, cast-iron fireplaces, exposed floorboards - instead of the generic "full of charm".
  • Call outside space what it is: a paved courtyard is not a garden, and misdescribing it wastes everyone's viewing.
  • State whether the house is mid- or end-terrace, and mention side or rear access where it exists - both genuinely affect value and buyer interest.
